Fifteen-year-old Sylvia used to miss up to five days of school every month, just because of her period.
In her community in Chiradzulu, Malawi, many girls don’t have access to safe, hygienic sanitary products or private spaces in which to use them.
Girls like Sylvia regularly miss days of school as a result, or even drop out altogether.
Missing out on an education can have a devastating impact on a girl’s life. It means she is more vulnerable to violence, abuse, child marriage and early pregnancy.
But an ActionAid project has changed Sylvia’s life. ActionAid has helped local women learn how to make safe, re-usable sanitary pads, and has given them free to girls at school. Now, Sylvia can keep going to school during her period.
No girl should be held back because of period poverty. Please donate £7 a month to help girls like Sylvia stay in school and manage their periods with dignity.
Your donation can help tackle period poverty
