Our response to the UK dropping its legal challenge to the ICC.
Hannah Bond, co-CEO of ActionAid UK, said:
“We're pleased to see the new government abandon the legal challenge to the International Criminal Court’s case. The court must be free to pursue the course of justice unhindered and the UK government must support it in doing so, as well as respect and comply with whatever the ultimate outcome of the case may be.
“Whilst these important steps towards accountability unfold, the devastating death toll continues to climb, famine remains imminent and our partners supporting women and girls tell us that the appalling conditions in Gaza are worsening by the day – yet they continue to provide humanitarian support against all odds. Our government must do everything it can to bring about the permanent and immediate ceasefire that the people of Gaza and the remaining hostages so desperately need – including by halting all arms licences to Israel and deploying all strategic diplomatic measures available, such as targeted sanctions, travel bans, and asset freezes on senior Israeli officials linked to alleged violations of international humanitarian law.”
