The UK must do everything in its power to get Gaza ceasefire back on track, demands co-CEO of ActionAid UK
Hannah Bond, co-CEO of ActionAid UK, said:
“As the Israeli military’s abrupt resumption of intensive airstrikes wreak utter devastation in Gaza, killing hundreds and forcing thousands to flee yet again, the UK must act immediately to get the ceasefire back on track and stop any more people being needlessly killed. We call on the government to decisively condemn the Israeli military’s attacks and use every diplomatic lever available to it to ensure the ceasefire agreement is respected, the violence in Gaza ends and the hostages are released.
"Right now, Gaza’s overwhelmed hospitals are struggling to treat those injured in the airstrikes because of the total blockade on humanitarian supplies imposed by the Israeli authorities, which has stopped any food, water, medicine, fuel or other essentials from entering the territory in 17 days. The government should unequivocally call this what it is – a breach of international humanitarian law – and step up the pressure on the Israeli authorities to resume the flow of humanitarian supplies immediately, including by halting all arms exports and invoking sanctions. Anything less and the UK risks being complicit in any violations.”
