Woman standing in floods in Bangladesh

Devastating flash floods in Bangladesh have affected more than five million people, leaving at least 27 people dead and 470,000 displaced into emergency shelters. Millions of families have lost everything - their homes, crops and livelihoods - and urgently need humanitarian assistance.

ActionAid and partners are responding in Noakhali District, delivering emergency supplies including food, water purification tablets, medicine and hygiene kits.

Flooding has destroyed roads, rail and communication networks, severely hindering evacuation and relief efforts. Sanitation systems have collapsed, and together with stagnant floodwaters pose significant health risks, including water-borne diseases such as cholera.

To reach waterlogged communities, ActionAid’s dedicated network of youth volunteers is braving treacherous conditions, travelling by small boats to deliver food and crucial supplies to stranded families.

Farah Kabir, country director of ActionAid Bangladesh said:

“We are deeply concerned about the impact of the flooding, particularly on women and children, who are the most vulnerable in such emergencies. The immediate challenges include access to safe drinking water and access to medical services and food.

"Entire families have lost everything. We are working tirelessly to provide relief, but the scale of the crisis is overwhelming."

We are planning to increase our emergency response over the coming days - please donate to help us reach more families.

ActionAid's initial response will be followed by a longer term recovery response, which will prioritise the repair of shelter and water, sanitation and hygiene facilities, and support for community members to re-establish their livelihoods.
